Abstract
727,126. Recording-apparatus. ALDEN, M. Sept. 11, 1953, No. 25164/53. Class 106 (4). [Also in Group XL (b)] Apparatus for making a record upon a web of electrosensitive paper comprises a casing having a substantially closed magazine compartment enclosing a supply of the paper, and provided with a slit through which the paper is fed and a recording element having a portion in contact with the paper and forming one side of the said slit so that the paper completes a seal for the magazine compartment. As shown, the casing 10 has a magazine compartment 16 housing a roll R of recording paper fed over guiding rollers 34, 36, 38 mounted on a platen member 20 forming the cover of a drum compartment 14. The drum 22 carrying a helical electrode 24 is driven by a motor which through reduction gearing 29, 27, 31 drives a feed-roller 28 associated with rollers 30 carried by arms 32 formed as extensions of the cover 11 of the casing 10. The linear electrode, as described in Specification 720,446, is formed as a steel band 40 carried by two pulleys, one of which is shown at 42, journalled in a frame 46 which is provided with a flange 48 the lower portion of which is provided with a strip 50 which guides the band 40 in its operative position to prevent buckling. The opposite portion of the pulley 42 and its counterpart are guided by the frame 46. The pulley 42 is driven from a motor Mt by a shaft 58 having a spigot connection with a shaft 56 connected to the pulley 42, the connection permitting slight axial movement between the shafts 56, 58, which are enclosed within a sleeve 60 secured in the lid 11 of the casing. The frame 46 is supported by a cantilever plate 52 secured to the cover 11. The hinge connection of the cover 11 is sealed by a gasket 62, and the contact surfaces between the cover 11 and the platen 20 are sealed by resilient strips. The opening between the underside of the cover 11 and free end of the plate 52 is sealed by an L'-shaped strip 66 one arm of which engages the cover and the other arm is in contact with a flange on the plate 52 secured to the flange 48 of the frame 46. In a modification, Fig. 6, using a blade electrode, the compartment 74 enclosing the roll R is sealed at the hinge position by a gasket 82 and the contact surfaces between the cover 78 and associated walls of the casing 70 also have sealing gaskets. The fixed blade electrode is channel-shaped, is suspended by hangers from the cover 78 and has vertical flange portions engaging V-shaped notches in blocks 102. The inclined flange 112 which forms the recording blade is resiliently pressed towards the helical blade 88 on the cylinder 86 by a spring-pressed plunger 104 mounted in the cover 78. A sealing block 114 mounted in a groove in the cover 78 engages a horizontal limb of the channel-shaped blade electrode. The cover 78 is held down in operative position by a spring-pressed detent 79 engaging a pin 81 secured to the cover and released by the depression of a plunger 85. The driving and tape-feed arrangements are as in the first embodiment.
