Abstract

726,875. Removing leakage. WIIK, R. July 6, 1953 [July 14, 1952], No. 18665/53. Class 113 (1). [Also in Group XXIX] In an automatic valve for boats having an outwardly opening conical valve disc 4, the seat la of which is arranged in the boats' bottom, means are provided whereby the valve can be kept in open position while it closes automatically when water flows in through the valve opening. The cylindrical housing 1 has apertures 15 for the outward flow of water, two oppositely arranged slits housing catch levers 5 pivoted at 12 and pressed upwards by springs 8, and houses a piston 3 whose hollow stem 13 is attached to the valve disc 4 and has movable therein a small piston 19 with a rod 10 which carries discs 7a and 7b having a spring 6 between them. The lower disc 7b rests on a shoulder in the housing 1 and in the open position of the valve, as shown in Fig. 1, the upper disc 7a is held by hooks 17 on the catch levers 5. The valve may be closed manually by pulling the button 11 or automatically due to inwardly flowing water acting on the pistons 3 and 19, in either case the piston 3 moves up along projections 16 on the catch levers to force the latter outwards thereby releasing the hooks 17 out of engagement with the disc 7a so that the spring 6 urges rod 10 upwards. The valve is opened by pushing the button 11. The bore in the stem 13 and the piston 19 may be of square section so that the valve 4 may be rotated by the button 11 if the seating is fouled.
