In a suspension filing device in which files are stored upright in wrappers suspended from two guide rails disposed transversely of a rack, shelf or the like, the files being introduced from the front of a row of wrappers, the height between the bottom of one row of wrappers and that of the next higher row is slightly greater than that of the files (of the order of 30 cm. for a standard file of 24 cm.), the guide rails at the front having a height above the bottom of the row not exceeding one third of the height of the files (of the order of 1-6 cm. for the standard file of 24 cm.) and the guide rails at the rear having a height above the bottom at least equal to that of the guide rails at the front, each wrapper being formed from a folded sheet of cardboard or like material and the sides of each wrapper being carried by suspension members each adapted to slide at one end on the front guide rail and at the other on the rear guide rail, the suspension members being so disposed that the fold of the wrapper is substantially horizontal and at a level not below the intended bottom of the row. A file wrapper has side members 1, 2 joined at a fold 3, the upper edges 4, 5 being bent down and secured by rivets or staples over rods 9 having bent over ends 7, which rest on guide rails 10, 11 at the front and rear of a rack or shelf. As shown, the rear rail 11 is disposed at about half the height of the file 6 and the rod 9 is bent and the wrapper of trapezoidal shape so that the fold 3 is horizontal. The rail 11 may be at a height equal to that of the file 6 or may be at the same height as the rail 10. Separate rods 9 may be used for each side of each file wrapper or, as in Fig. 4, the folded over part 5 of one wrapper may be secured over the folded over part 4 of the next wrapper. Partitions 12, extending substantially to the height of the files 6, may be provided and as shown, the partition 12 has a rounded front edge and extends only half way , across the wrapper. Each partition is double walled, the lower walls 13 fitting over the rod 9 and wrapper sides where it may be secured permanently.
