Abstract

726,173. Sliding doors. COWDROY, T. C. Oct. 27, 1953 [Feb. 5, 1953], No. 29629/53. Class 20 (3). [Also in Group XXXIV] A suspended sliding door 10 comprises a ball track fitting 12 mounted upon the upper end of the door, a rail 18 disposed within the ball track fitting, ball bearings 19 within the fitting 12 and resting upon the rail 18 and a channel 23 formed in the lower edge of the door to receive a guide member 24 secured to the floor 25 adjacent to the door. The fitting 12 which is secured, as by screws 13 through a base flange 14, to the top edge of the door, has long and short limbs 16, 17, joined by a cylindrical portion 15 containing the ball bearings 19. The ball bearings occupy a space which is half the total length of the track fitting 12 and roll upon an upper arcuate surface 22 of the rail 18, the latter being screwed at 21 to the door head 20. A cover strip (not shown) may be provided to screen the fitting 12. The guide member 24 may be secured directly to the floor 25 or as shown may be received in a groove 26 in the latter.
