725,940. Adjustable light shields for lamps. OSBORN, H. J. Nov. 23, 1953 [Jan. 21, 1953], No. 1798/53. Class 75 (4). In an adjustable light shield for a lamp, particularly for a vehicle lamp, and comprising transversely extending slats tiltable about a horizontal axis for preventing light emission in a horizontal or upwardly inclined direction, the slats 14, Fig. 2, are mounted on a pair of spaced vertical bars 11 and connected to a common operating bar 22 disposed parallel to the bar 11, the slats being each formed with slots or other openings at one edge to receive the bars 11 and being formed or provided with elements which extend wholly or partially across the mouths of said openings and pass through holes in the bars. Fig. 4 illustrates a slat 14 provided with holes 19 joined by slits 21 to the adjacent edge of. the slat, through which the edges of the bars 11 may be passed, holes 18 being provided in the latter to receive the edges of the slats 14. The slats 14 may be of metal or of 'moulded plastic material, and in the latter case may be provided with straight sided slots in the edges to receive the edges of the bars 11, 22, the joints being completed by U-shaped sheet metal slips which pass through holes in the bars 11, 12 and grip the edges of the slats. Alternatively the edges of the slats have L-shaped slots. The slats may be opaque or translucent and are tilted by means of'a Bowden cable 31 or by a solenoid or other means.
