Abstract

725,846. Louvre ventilators and windows. APPLETON PTY, Ltd., N.V. March 27, 1953 [July 14, 1952], No. 8508/53. Classes 20 (3) and 137. In a jamb assembly for adjustable louvres having a number of louvre clips 20, Fig. 1, each pivoted at an intermediate position to a jamb 10, the lowermost portion of one clip overlapping and in front of the uppermost portion of the louvre clip next below when the clips are in the fully closed position, a weather bead 14 extends from each clip pivot to the louvre clip pivot next below, its upper part being in rear of a lower portion of the upper louvre clip, its intermediate portion passing obliquely from rear to front adjacent the overlapping portions of the clips, and its lower portion being in front of an upper portion of the lower louvre clip. The channelled sheet metal jambs 10 have a number of equally spaced bosses 12 through each of which a hole 13 is formed to receive a discshaped pivot 15 having an integral and coaxial disc-shaped enlarged head 16. A pair of connecting bars 19 which are pivoted to an operating handle (not shown) receive studs 18 on the heads 16, each pivot 15 being provided with a pair of studs which engage central holes 24, Fig. 3, in the side 22 of a corresponding clip 20. Each sheet metal clip 20 is of channel form, the lower parts of the rear web 26 and side 22 and the upper parts of the front web 25 and side 22 being cut away and the end portions 27, 28 of the front and rear webs respectively being bent over to form stops for retaining the glass 21 in position. The rear web 26 of the clip is cut at 29 to form a spring leaf 30 for firmly holding glass of varying gauges. The side 22 of a clip 20 is formed with a central concavity 23 which interfits with a boss 12, the remainder of the side being slightly spaced from the jamb 10. To prevent the intermediate portion of the bead 14 from being fouled by the clips 20, the latter have the upper parts of their rear webs 26 and the lower parts of their front webs 25 reduced in width.
