724,952. Coating wires. CONNOLLY'S (BLACKLEY], Ltd. March 2, 1953, No. 5787/53. Class 140. A wire carrying surplus coating liquid is drawn continuously upward through a wiping die comprising a chamber divided into upper and lower compartments 1 and 2 by a partition 3. The wire passes in succession through an aperture 5 which permits some coating liquid to be drawn into the compartment 2, a guide aperture 6 in the partition 3 through which the wire passes with minimum clearance, and an outlet aperture 4, smaller than aperture 5, which determines the thickness of the coating. Additional apertures 7 in the partition 3 permit coating liquid drawn by the wire into the lower compartment 2 to pass through into the upper compartment 1 which is thus kept full of coating liquid. The die is mounted in a freely pivoted bracket engaging groove 11.
