Abstract

724,897. Automatic control systems. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. March 11, 1949 [March 16, 1948], No. 7904/48. Class 38 (4). In a control system comprising motive equipment, provision responsive to the energization of this equipment is made for adjusting at will the output of the control means with respect to its setting, to reduce energization of the motive equipment to zero, thereby rectifying drift. A control signal is derived at 4 from an A.C. supply 6, 7, and a gyro 1, amplified at 14 and applied through a metadyne 25 to a stabilizing servo motor 2. A regulator 3 controls the velocity of the motive equipment. When it is desired to eliminate drift from the system, the regulator 3 is set to zero and a switch 31 closed so that a motor 29 adjusts a potentiometer 15 until there is no voltage drop across a resistance 26. To overcome friction and make the system more sensitive, movement of the motive equipment causes contacts 21, 22 or 21, 23 to close in a sense augmenting the control signal.
