A removable plug-board in a record-card controlled statistical machine comprises stationary terminals leading to the analysing means and to the means to be operated by the analysing impulses and a removable plug-board cooperating in the insert position with the terminals; is characterized in that the plugboard and terminals are located in the base plate of the machine and that the plug-board comprises at least two layers of contact, bases, which in each layer are paralell to one anotner, the bars of one layer extending transversely of the bars of the next layer, the bars of each layer being electrically connected to one other layer at the required points in accordance with the wiring diagram, and is further characterized in that the stationary terminals co-operate with the plug-board on at least two sides of the plugboard at right angles to each other, one side leading to the analysing device and one side to the receiving means so that the two sets of contacts are brought into contact connection with the plug-board when the latter is in the insert position. Fig. 2 shows the general arrangement of the machine in which cards 10 are fed from a magazine 11 to a receiving hopper 13 past sets of sensing-brushes 14, 15. The base plate 25 is of hollow construction to accommodate the plug-board arrangement shown in detail in Figs. 5, 6 and 7. The removable plugboard comprises an upper set of contact bars 28 arranged in parallel rows, and a lower similar set 29 at right angles to and insulated from the first set by member 30. Contact with each set is made by spring contacts 32, 33 respectively, and interconnections are made as required by the wiring diagram by means of screws and bolts 31 as shown in Fig. 8. The door 26 of the base plate compartment 25 co-operates with a lifting device so that the plug-board is inserted freely and afterwards raised into contact position with spring contacts 32, 33 by the lifting device. The latter comprises two pairs of members 40 slotted to allow pins 43 to pass freely between them. Members 49 shaped as shown in Fig. 6 are supported between the pairs of members 40. The movement of closing the door 26 is arranged to slide the member 49 so that the inclined surfaces engage the pins 43 and raise the U-shaped members 46, on which the plug-board is supported, by members 47 so that the plug-board is brought into contact with the sets of contacts 32, 33. The contacts 32, 33 may be provided on both parallel sides of the plug-board as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 so that the two sets of contacts occupy all four sides of the plug-board, being supported on insulated supports 39a to 39d as shown.
