Abstract

724,492. Supplying liquid fuel to burners. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP DE BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ. June 15, 1953 [June 16, 1952], No. 16366/53. Class 75 (1). In a vapour burner installation comprising a blower 1 supplying combustion air to a burner 3, and a fuel supply control means including a chamber 4 having a float-controlled inlet valve 7 and communicating with a second chamber 12 from which fuel is discharged to the burner 3, the float chamber 4 is connected to the pressure side of the air blower, as by pipes 16, 17, the chamber 12 being at atmospheric pressure, and either the fuel supply connection between the chambers 4. 12, or from the chamber 12 to the burner 3, is such that when the'air blower 1 is inoperative the fuel supply is kept at a rate sufficient to.maintain a pilot flame at the burner 3. As illustrated the connection between the chambers 4, 12 comprises needle valve controlled overflow pipes 8, 9, the outlet ends of which are, respectively, below and above the normal float-controlled level of liquid fuel in the chamber 4. When the air blower 2 is operating the air pressure applied to the chamber 4 causes fuel to flow through both pipes 8, 9, but when the air blower is inoperative pilot supply of fuel is maintained through the pipe 8 only. From the chamber 12 the fuel passes to the burner 3 through a pipe 13 past an inspection window 14 and through an auxiliary reservoir 15. On starting the blower 1 compressed air is fed to the reservoir 15 through pipes 16, 18, and forces fuel therefrom to the burner to prevent blowing out of the pilot flame before the arrival of the main fuel via the passage 9. In a further construction the fuel passes directly from the float-chamber to the second chamber, and the connection from the latter to the burner comprises a discharge orifice controlled by a float valve adapted, when the fuel levels in the two chambers are equal, to allow passage of a pilot supply of fuel only.
