Abstract
724,303. Refrigerators. DOLE REFRIGERATING CO. March 13, 1953 [Jan. 12, 1953], No. 6995/53. Class 29. A cooling unit for use in a cold storage room or a truck comprises a housing 11, 12 having an air inlet 19 in the lower part and a cold air outlet 11b at the upper part and containing a number of upright plane smooth-walled evaporator plates 30 spaced apart each plate containing an evaporator coil the coils being connected in series by pipes 36 and supplied with refrigerant from a compressor-condenser unit. A fan 51 in the upper part of the housing draws air upwardly between the plates and forces it into the storage space through the outlet 11b. A protecting structure positioned forwardly of the front wall 11 of the housing comprises cross bars 15 and vertical strips 17 with a grid 18 protecting the cold air outlet. The air inlet at the bottom is also covered by a grid. The refrigerating plates comprise side walls 31, 32 sealed at their edges with the evaporator coil between them, the space between the walls being partially filled with a eutectic and evacuated of air. The inlet and outlet pipes 37, 38 for refrigerant pass through a heat exchanger 40 in the upper part of the housing. The unit is fixed to the end wall of the truck &c. by strips 100.
