Abstract

723,911. Changing waveform. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 25, 1953 [March 17, 1952], No. 6839/52. Class 38 (2). A pulse-generating circuit for producing pulses of high peak value and of short duration comprises a multiple T network of series-connected saturable reactors P1, P2 ... Pn and shunt-connected saturable capacitors D1, D2 ... Dn. A sinusoidal waveform is applied to the circuit from an alternator G, the condenser C and the inductor L being arranged to form a circuit with the capacitor D1 such that when D1 is unsaturated the circuit resonates at the supply frequency. As soon as the current in the inductor L reaches a maximum value, the capacitor D1 is designed to saturate, its impedance thus increases and allows the capacitor to become charged. When the voltage across the capacitor D1 reaches a maximum, inductor P1 saturates and the capacitor D1 discharges into the inductor P1. When the current in P1 reaches a maximum, capacitor D2 saturates and the sequence of events continues until a pulse is produced in the load R. The time constants of the various charge and discharge circuits are such that the pulse in travelling along the circuit increases in peak value and decreases in duration. The Specification ineludes a statement of certain conditions which must exist between saturated and unsaturated values of the various components and also between the successive component values. Specifications 666,574 and 718,195 are referred to.
