Abstract

723,385. Brushes. OSBORN MANUFACTURING CO. Aug. 28, 1952 [Sept. 13, 1951; May 31, 1952]. No. 21673/52. Class 19. In a brush element of the type having an elongated unitary self-supporting channel form back made by bending from a thin strip of material, in which brush material is held by a retaining element disposed along the channel, the element is retained in place by hollow inwardly directed protruberances formed in one or both of the channel sides without cutting the material and spaced from the edge of the channel. The protruberances 5, 6 may be triangular, circular, oval or semi-circular, Figs. 7, 10 and 11 (not shown) and those in opposite sides may be directly opposite, slightly displaced or situated midway between the opposite protruberances. In the former case they need only protrude a small distance into the channel, Fig. 9 (not shown). The channel may be wound into a circle or spiral with the bristles radially disposed or may be formed into a cup-brush in which case the tension in the outer side of the channel permits the omission of the protruberances.on that side. The channel back may be made of steel, brass or synthetic plastic and the brush material may be horsehair, tampico fibre, wire or nylon. Specification 645,407 is referred to.
