Abstract

Aqueous dispersions suitable for use in the electrophoretic deposition on a conductor of adherent coatings comprising as main ingredients 80-90 per cent of polytetrafluorethylene and 10-20 per cent of an organopolysiloxane resin (see Group XXXVI) are prepared by mixing aqueous dispersions of the ingredients to give these proportions. The polysiloxane resin emulsion may comprise an emulsion of methyl phenyl siloxane resin containing an average of about 1.6 total methyl and phenyl groups per silicon atom, the resin being dissolved in a solvent such as xylene or toluene and then emulsified with water; a silicone resin cure accelerator such as zinc octoate may be incorporated and as emulsifying agent there may be used a condensation product of polyethylene glycol with alkyl, aryl or alkyl and/aryl acids or alcohols, stearamineacetate, morpholine oleate, and sorbitan monolaurate alkylene derivatives. The polytetrafluorethylene emulsion may contain other heat-resisting polymers such as polymerized monochlortrifluorethylene. Insulating tapes may be made by depositing the resins on ribbon-shaped electrodes and then stripping off the deposits. Specifications 542,655, 548,911 and 597,834 are referred to.
