Abstract

722,624. Fruit-grading apparatus. GIBBONS, J. S. July 15, 1953 [June 3, 1952], No. 13990/52. Class 117. Apparatus for grading fruit or other similar articles comprises a disc 12 rotating, with a sleeve 8, on a fixed vertical spindle 7. Grading apertures are defined by V-shaped notches 11, in the edge of the disc 12, and notches 15 in radially displaceable members 14, which are carried by a sleeves 17 sliding on radial arms 13 fixed to the sleeve 8. The sleeves 17 are moved by a fixed cam 9 so that the grading apertures are of minimum size in the neighbourhood of the loading shoot 24 and open progressively as the articles are carried round thereon. When an aperture has enlarged sufficiently, the article above falls through on to a sloping table 28 divided into compartments by radial slots 29. The sleeve 8 is rotated by a belt 31 and pulley 30. The articles are guided on to the apertures by sloping members 25 adjacent notches 11 and arcuate members 26 on the movable parts 14. A paddle rotated by gearing from the sleeve 8 may be provided to feed the articles one by one to the apertures.
