Abstract

722,098. Measuring heat quantities. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. June 1, 1951 [June 2, 1950], No. 13083/51. Class 97 (3). [Also in Group XIX] A meter for measuring the quantity of heat contained in hot water flowing through a pipe 14, Fig. 3, comprises a rotary type water meter 9 the continuous rotation of the shaft of which is converted by an integrating system 12 into the discontinuous rotation of a shaft which drives a totalisator 13. The water meter drives a shaft 1, Fig. 1, rigidly connected to arm la, which has a pin-and-slot connection 1b 2a with a lever 2. The opposite end of lever 2 is pivoted at 2b to an arm 4a which is freely pivoted at 8a on a disc 7. A pair of discs 5, 6 are provided having cut-out portions on their peripheries, so that when a finger 3 on lever 2 drops into the cut-out portions, a shoe 4 contacts disc 7 to rotate it and the shaft 8, but on reaching the end of a cut-out portion, finger 3 causes lever 2 to move its shoe 4 out of engagement with the disc 7. The disc 5 may be fixed and disc 6 positioned by a thermometer 10 which may be a differential one. Alternatively both discs 5, 6 may be positioned by thermometers, one at the inlet and the other at the outlet of apparatus such as a radiator. In a further form the rotary water meter closes and opens successively a pair of electric contacts which produces the rotation of an electric impulse receiver, the shaft of the latter actuating the integrating system as before. The discs 5, 6 may take into account the variation of the specific weight of water with temperature and each may have more than one cut-out portion.
