Abstract

721,487. Desensitized high explosives. DYNAMIT AKT.-GES. VORM. A. NOBEL & CO. June 12, 1952 [June 13, 1951], No. 14853/52. Class 9(2). An explosive composition comprises a high explosive, a phlegmatizing wax therefor, and a desensitizing agent, which is soluble in the wax and/or forms an emulsion therewith, but is insoluble or only slightly soluble in water. The desensitizing agent is tricresyl phosphate, triphenyl phosphate, a phthalic acid ester, benzyl naphthalene, tetrahydronaphthyl benzyl ether, or 2-phenoxy methyl tetrahydronaphthalene. Pentaerythritol tetranitrate, cyclotrimethylene trinitroamine, or cyclohexanol pentanitrate are desensitized by commercial waxes, montan waxes, or synthetic waxes consisting of esters of long-chain fatty acids, such as montanic acid or synthetic carboxylic acids from the oxidation of paraffin, with long-chain alcohols, to which 5-30 per cent of the desensitizing agent has been added. Reference is made to 5 or 10 per cent of synthetic waxes consisting of long-chain ketones having a melting point 82‹C., and of a high polymer CO-hydrogenation product (Fischer-Tropsch) consisting of longchain ketones and esters being used, and to mixtures of refined montan wax and synthetic long-chain esters.
