Abstract
721,461. Aircraft wheel chocks. UNGLESS, D. C. March 12, 1953 [Dec. 13, 1951]. No. 29170/51. Class 103 (1). In a chock for aircraft wheels having an anchor for anchoring the chock to the surface on which the aircraft is standing, means are provided for thrusting the chock away from the anchor rearwardly against the aircraft wheel to secure a firm resistant pressure against said wheel. The rear surface 11 of the block 10 is preferably curved to the curvature of the aircraft wheel 12 and in its inoperative position the chock is moved on halfround skids 24 provided underneath the block. Operation of a foot (or alternatively a hand) pedal 18 actuates a pump 17 to supply hydraulic fluid to a single or double ram unit 16 which forces feet 14, fitted with a friction lining or like surface 15, or alternatively having a serrated surface, forwardly by sliding in suitable guide 13 provided in the block. This action moves the block rearwardly away from the feet 14 to set up a resistant pressure against the aircraft wheel. The feet 14 may be returned to their inoperative position by means of a rope 22, which, when pulled, actuates a hydraulic release 23, fitted to the ram. Actuation of the feet 14 may also be effected by a hand or foot operated ratchet or like mechanism.
