Abstract

720,963. Feeding webs. BRITISH TABULATING MACHINE CO., Ltd. May 20, 1953, No. 14173/53. Class 100 (1). An apparatus for feeding tape comprises a continuously rotating member 11, a stationary member 5, a feed roller 1 coaxial with the rotating and stationary members and positioned between them, means supporting the roller 1 for limited axial movement, means for selectively urging the roller into contact with either the rotating or stationary members, and a pressure roller 2 for maintaining the tape in contact with the feed roller. As shown, the roller 1 is of light material, e.g. nylon or aluminium, and has conical end surfaces for engagement with similarly inclined surfaces of the members 5.and 11. Rods 15 and 16 are slidable in the members 11 and 5 respectively for engagement with discs 14, such that the roller 1 may be moved axially in either direction by energization of an electromagnet 18 or 20. The member 5 is secured to a frame 3 by a screw 6, while the member 11 is driven by a continuously rotated pulley 12.
