Abstract

A multicolour decorative article or design is made by taking a recessed or intaglio mould, laying over it a sheet of readily-deformable metal and causing it to take the impression of the mould, applying differently-coloured liquefied plastic materials to the sheet as by painting to make the shape of the article up to the depth of the impression, solidifying the article by heat while it is still on the metal sheet, cooling the article and stripping it from the metal sheet. The material may be a liquid dispersion of polyvinyl chloride in plasticizer. The metal sheet may be tin, aluminium foil or lead sheet, and may be forced into the mould impression by the fingers, by rubbing or by means of a resilient tool or a soft cloth. The mould may be a plaster cast. The article made may be a letter of the alphabet, a fish, an animal, a basket of flowers or a butterfly. The butterfly may have hairs or bristles embedded therein to simulate antenn , and may have a transverse wire embedded therein which may be bent to make the wings stand out.
