In order that a tinopener 4 of the flange type may be arranged on the upper surface of the tin, the upper face 9 of the tin is depressed downward and the edge 3 of that face is depressed downward along a part of its length so that the rectangular part of the opener lies flush on the upper surface of the tin and the flange 7 of the opener lies against the neighbouring side of the tin with no projection beyond the upper face or edge, the opener being retained in its place by means of an adhesive strip e.g. the advertising label.
