Abstract
<PICT:0718578/III/1> In a fluidized catalyst cracking process in which fluidised catalyst is circulated through a reactor 1, a separate stripper 2 and a regenerator 3 and in which the vapours from the stripper are combined with the reactor product vapours by a pipe 15 leading to the reactor vapour space, the vapour pressure in the stripper is maintained constant, despite fluctuations in pressure in the reactor 1, by a control valve 14, in the stripper vapour outlet. By this means the pressure drop at the slide valve 16 is maintained constant, ensuring constant rates of catalyst flow. The pressure in the vapour space of the reactor may be varied during operation to keep the catalyst pressure in the standpipe 13 constant when the depth of catalyst bed in the reactor 1 is varied to control, e.g. the coke formation.
