Abstract
718,463. Drop-bottom skips. JOHNSON CO., C. S. Feb. 21, 1950, [Feb. 26, 1949.] No. 14400/52. Divided out of 718,411. Class 78 (4). A bucket of the bottom dump type for lowslump concrete comprises an upper cylindrical portion 21, a funnel portion 22 and a throat portion 23 whose diameter is a substantial portion of the diameter of the portion 21, and whose average height is about half its diameter, while the included angle of the portion 22 is acute. The portions 21-23 are smoothly joined together and the throat portion is fitted with pneumaticallyoperated gates 30, 31 (see Specification 718,411) arranged for rapid clearance of the entire discharge area of the throat portion, whereby upon opening the gate a slug of concrete may drop out more or less intact, followed by folding action discharge, i.e. the peripheral parts falling into the centre of the bucket, of the remainder of the concrete. As shown, the diameter of the throat portion is approximately 42 inches which is a little over half the diameter of portion 2 and the included angle of portion 22 is about 22 degrees. The average height of portion 23 is about two feet. The bucket is carried by struts 24 welded to a supporting ring 25 and is provided with a bail (not shown), see Specification 718,411.
