Abstract

<PICT:0718452/IV (b)/1> Naphthenic naphtha is hydroformed by contacting in vapour form with hydrogen and a fluidized catalyst comprising platinum or palladium and a volatile fluoride present in such amounts that the fluorine content of the catalyst, expressed as HF, is 0.1-1 per cent by weight, catalytic activity being maintained by adding said fluoride in an amount corresponding to that lost by volatilization. The fluoride may be HF, NH4F or an alkyl fluoride and may be added with the feed, the recycle gas or the regeneration gas where the catalyst is revivified. Naphtha containing at least 20 per cent naphthenes, and hydrogen are heated in coils 3, 6 respectively and fed to fluidized reactor 10 operated in conventional manner. Product stream passes to separator 17, hydrogen-containing gas being recycled by line 18. Catalyst is withdrawn via pipe 21, and charged with hydrogen or diluted air via line 22 to fluidized regenerator 23. Regenerated catalyst passes through line 25 and gas stripper 26 to remove oxygen and water to reactor 10. Fluoride is introduced as required by lines 21a, 22a or 27.ALSO:<PICT:0718452/III/1> Naphthenic naphtha is hydroformed by contacting in vapour form with hydrogen and a fluidized catalyst comprising platinum or palladium and a volatile fluoride present in such amounts that the fluorine content of the catalyst, expressed as HF, is 0.1-1 per cent. by weight, catalytic activity being maintained by adding said fluoride in an amount corresponding to that lost by volatilization.
