Abstract

717,586. Synchronism indicators. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Aug. 13, 1952, [Sept. 17, 1951.] No. 21794/51. Class 37. Apparatus for indicating the "pull-in" or "pull-out" position of a synchronous motor comprises a neon lamp or other indicating device 3 connected in a circuit supplied with a voltage from the same source as the motor, the circuit containing a rectifier 4 in series with the indicating device and a rotating switch with an insulating section 6 driven by the motor so that if, during the half cycle when the rectifier 4 conducts, the rotor has pulled in in the desired position the lamp 3 &c. remains unoperated. The arrangement shown is for a motor with a two pole unwound rotor. For a four-pole motor two sections 6 of insulating material are employed, one on each side of the shaft and each extending for 90 degrees. If the insulating section subtends only a small angle the lamp flickers before synchronism is actually lost.
