716,272. Engine mountings. METALASTIK, Ltd., and HIRST, A. J. Oct. 22, 1951 [Oct. 21 1950], No. 25702/50. Class 79(3) In a flexible mounting for the rear end of a vehicle power unit comprising a link incorporating two spaced rubber bushes, the axes of the bushes are at right angles to the longitudinal centre line of the unit and lie in a common plane which, when the link is under load, is parallel to or inclined at a small angle to the principal axis of inertia of the unit, the link supporting the rear end of the unit from the vehicle frame in such a manner that the portion of the weight of the unit taken by the link stresses the bushes wholly or mainly in torsion and fore-and-aft loading due to acceleration, braking and declutching forces stressing the bushes in radial compression and tension. As shown the link 12 has parallel bores to the surfaces of which are bonded the rubber bushes 13, 14, or alternatively the connections may be effected through sleeves on the bushes. Secured to bores in the bushes are sleeves 15 and the link is arranged between lugs 16 on the housing 17 for the output shaft 11 of the vehicle power unit 10 A bolt passes through the lugs 16 and the sleeve 15 in the forward end of the link and a similar connection is effected between the sleeve 15 at the rear end of the link and lugs of a frame cross member so that the axes of the bushes lie parallel to the principal axis of inertia A of the power unit. In a modified construction of the link, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), the link is formed of spaced parallel plates. Specification 662,688 is referred to.
