Abstract

715,633. Load-handling appliances. JOLIS, H. Dec. 9, 1952 [Dec. 10, 1951], No. 28851/51. Class 78 (3) Automatic apparatus for conveying loads comprises a platform with means actuated by the arrival of the load on the platform for causing the platform to move to the discharging position means actuated by the arrival at the discharging position for stopping the platform and means for causing the platform to return to the loading position when the load is discharged, an inclined loading runway and a device actuated by the arrival of the platform at the loading position to allow only a single load to move on to the platform. As shown in Fig. 1, a load is automatically transferred from inclined guide rails 14 in line with a platform 16 at one level to an unloading position at another level where it is discharged on to a runway 13. The platform 16 has inclined rails 17, a pivoted catch 23 with one end projecting above the rails to retain the load, and a catch 25 in the form of a bellcrank lever, one arm of which retains the catch 23. The platform is guided by uprights 15 in a framework 10 in a well 11; to one upright is attached an abutment 26 in the path of the bellcrank lever. A stop 34 projects through the platform and operates a threeway valve controlling a hydraulic ram 22 fixed at one end in the flow and having chains 18 connected to the piston rod, the chains passing over sprockets and connected to the side of the platform. A T-shaped lever 28, 29 pivoted to the rails 14 is connected by linkage to a bellcrank lever 31 also pivoted to the rails. The lever is restrained by a spring so that one arm 29 retains a load with the lever 31 depressed by the platform. The pump of the cylinder is continuously running, and when the platform is raised the lever 31 rotates and the arm 28 is rotated to retain the next load. At the upper level the platform is stopped by a member 42 on the upright which moves the valve to the holding position and the abutment 26 strikes the lever 25 to release the catch 23 allowing the load to pass on to the runway 13 where it either strikes a stop 45 or the stop 42 moves further to set the valve for load lowering under gravity. The patform descends on to members 49. The catch 25 is reset by a stop 27 in the well and the platform rotates the lever 31 to rotate the lever 28 to release another load and retain the next load. The stop 34 operates the valve for load raising. In alternative forms the loading and discharge runways and the platform are roller gravity conveyers and one chain may be used passing under the platform. The tripping members may be switches controlling the valve through a solenoid.
