Abstract
349,298. Endless belt conveyers; roller-way conveyers ; lifts. REED, E., of Newcastle Breweries, Haymarket, Newcastle-on-Tyne. May 22, 1930, No. 15788. [Classes 78 (i) and 78 (iii).] In automatically operated means for transferring goods from one conveyer, track, or runway to another at a different level of the kind including a vertically travelling cage provided with a tilting floor, the floor is hinged adjacent to that end of the cage at which the goods enter. When the cage is in its upper position, the floor m, Fig. 1, forms an extension of the roller-way conveyer a and is supported by the pivot n and a cross beam q. As the cage nears the lower limit of its travel, the floor m strikes a spring buffer w, Fig. 3, and the floor tilts about the pivot n into alignment with the roller-way conveyer a<1>. The tilting of the floor is limited by the engagement of a projection x on the buffer r with a stop y. In this position the box s slides out of the cage on to the conveyer. When the cage is empty, the weight v returns it to the upper position. The entrance to the cage is guarded by a gate c which is raised automatically by contact with a rod j on the cage as the latter approaches its upper limit of travel. In a modification the gate is raised by a spring trigger on the cage which is released by the incoming box striking the buffer r so that the gate falls and prevents the entrance of another box. The passage of the boxes down the conveyer a is controlled by a catch device. The cage may be provided with a pivoted lever which on contact with a stop strikes the box and starts its sliding movement on to the lower runway. The lift may be power-operated when it is desired to convey goods from a lower station to an upper one, and the free end of the floor may be suspended by links from a rocker arm pivoted on a shaft mounted at the top of the cage. The floor is tilted when the free end of the rocker arm strikes a projection at the upper station.
