714,874. Integrating-apparatus. COMPAGNIE POUR LA FABRICATION DES COMPTEURS ET MATERIEL D'USINES A GAZ. March 10, 1952 [March 8, 1951], No. 6199/52. Class 106 (4). Mechanical multiplying apparatus for the integration of the product of two variables comprises the combination of a shaft, rotating under the influence of one of the quantities and actuating a differential with pawls for rigid connection and for liberation of sun gear actuating counter gear, with cam means rocking co-operating members, the relative displacement of the cam means being defined by a second quantity, by means of a second differential, the system of co-operating members and the system of pawls being rigidly connected and rocking thus adjusting the time for freeing the sun gear actuating the counter gear, on which is inscribed the product of the quantities. In Fig, 1 a shaft 1 is driven in accordance with one variable and drives through gearing a planet wheel 5 which drives sun wheels 6 or 7 when the other is held by pawl 11 or 12, movement of the sun wheel 7 driving a counter 10. The pawls 11, 12 are rocked with a snap action from one position to the other by projections on cam discs 25, 26 engaging rollers 23, 24 on a member 22 connected to the pawl supporting arm 16 through a spring 17, stops 20, 21 limiting movement in each direction. The cam discs 25, 26 are driven equally and oppositely from a shaft 30 through differential gearing 32 and gearing 29 respectively, the relative displacement of their projections being adjusted through the planet wheel 36 of the differential gearing 32 by means of a sector 39 regulated in accordance with a second variable. The shaft 30 is preferably driven by an independent constant speed motor but may be driven from the meter driving shaft 1. In Fig. 3 the cam discs 55, 56 are driven in the same direction and have extended raised cam surfaces which are followed by a single roller 53 for rocking the pawls. In Fig. 5 the pawl arm 16" is rocked by a pivoted lever 60 forked to co-operate with a disc 65 on a shaft 64 which is pushed and pulled in the directions f4, f4<SP>1</SP> by pairs of discs 66, 67 engaging levers 72, 69 carrying rollers 71, 68 which are engaged successively by projections 78 on a disc 77 driven preferably at constant speed, the relative position of the levers 72, 69 being adjustable in accordance with the second variable. The second variable may be the difference between two similar variables obtained by using a third differential gear.
