Abstract

A moisture-repellant ointment, salve &c. consists essentially of a homogeneous unreacted mixture of a non-toxic ointment base and methyl, ethyl or phenyl siloxane or a mixture thereof, having a viscosity of 20 centistokes or more at 25 DEG C. Suitable bases are petrolatum alone or mixed with lanolin, Unguentum Aquae Rosae, and a mixture of polyethylene and mineral oil. From 3 to 45 per cent by volume siloxane may be used. The siloxane oils may be converted to greases by the addition of powdered silica or other thickening agents.
