Abstract
714,608. Snap-action switches. ROTAX, Ltd. Dec. 9, 1952 [Dec. 10, 1951], No. 28856/51. Class 38(5) A two-way switch comprises two pairs of toggle links a, b, each pair controlled by a spring h acting therebetween and connected by a fixed pivot pin c, so that normally links b abut a stop z and links a abut stops 2, and contacts f are open. A member o has arcuate slots p receiving pins n fixed to the free ends of the links a, and pivotally supports at q a rocker r. A slot s in the rocker r receives a roller y mounted on a pin x which is moved in an arcuate path by a crank on an operating spindle, Fig. 2 (not shown). To operate one of the contacts f the roller y is moved in the appropriate direction causing the member o and rocker r to move together, the rocker r riding over one of the pins n and the other pin n being moved by the member o, whereby the toggle a, b associated with the lastmentioned pin n snaps over-centre and the contact f engages a fixed contact g. During this movement a spring k connected at m to the links a is strained, and at the end of the movement the rocker r rides off the pin n of the unactuated toggle a, b whereupon the rocker tilts and a recess t therein engages the said pin thereby locking the actuated toggle. To open the contact f the roller y is moved to its original position whereupon the rocker r tilts back to disengage the pin n and the spring k restores the actuated toggle a, b.
