Abstract

713,924. Image converters. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 23, 1952 [Sept. 26, 1951], No. 23837/52. Class 39(1) An image converter for converting infra-red and radioscopic images has a wall coating or conductive surface which is insulated from the photo electric cathode and preferably at a positive potential relative thereto. As shown for detecting X-ray images the cathode is a spherical bowl of aluminium 9 carrying a layer 10 of a luminescent material and a photo-electric layer 11. A metal cylinder anode 12 grips the re-entrant part 3 of the tube, its part adjacent the cathode being thimble shaped and formed with a circular bore 14 of small diameter. The luminescent collecting screen 5 extends across the wider part of the anode tube and a contact spring 17 engages an annular metal coating 15 connected to a source of potential e.g. 25 kV. The inner surface of the wall 1 is coated with a conductive layer 20 e.g. of aluminium which extends from slightly beyond the marginal surface 21 of the cathode almost to the narrowed part 2. This layer and the cathode are connected to a variable source 23 of voltage of up to 200 volts.
