Class 10 Weight assisted driving mechanism comprises a rotatable driving member supporting thereon in angularly spaced relation a plurality of weighted members movable from a first position close to the periphery of the driving member to a second position extending outwardly therefrom power operated means being provided to successively move each of said weighted members from its first to its second position whereby the driving member is rotated by the out of balance turning moment corresponding to the resultant of the several individual turning moments of the weighted members. In the embodiment shown the driving member in the form of a flywheel 8 is secured by means of angle.straps 9 to the rotatable annulus 1 of a pump of the type disclosed in Specification 697,397, [Group XXVIII], weights 13 being attached to the periphery of the wheel 8 by U-shaped brackets 11 and arms 12. Each weight is provided with a lug 14 which accommodates a pin 15 such that diametrically opposed weights may be connected by a strap 16. A motor driven belt mechanism consisting of motor 19, pulley 21, belt 18 and hook members 23 is provided to ensure that each weighted member is in its extended position when at the point B. This is effected by the hook 23 on the belt engaging the pin 15 of a weighted member at the point A. As shown in Figs. 3, 4, the arm 12 is connected to the bracket 11 by a nut and bolt 25 the cross-section of part of the bolt being square such that a cam 29 may be fitted and held against rotation. This cam is-spring (30) loaded against the lower cam surfaced face 28 of the arm 12 so that when the weight is caused to fold up as at D it is releasably held in position so counteracting the effect of centrifugal force on the folded weight. The arm 12 is provided with a pin 27 which, engages shoulders 26 cut into one of the arms of the bracket 11 thereby limiting the angular movement of the arm from the folded to the extended positions. In a modification the weighted members comprise discs pivoted direct to the driving member the latter being mounted on a shaft having belt pulley and flywheel means for transmitting the drive to the machine.
