Abstract

An elastomeric diisocyanate modified polyester or polyesteramide is cured by heating it with a polyisocyanate in presence of a tertiary amine containing no reactive hydrogen atoms and in which there is not more than one aryl radical directly attached to the amine nitrogen atom. Specified amines are (1) trialkylamines (2) dialkylmonoarylamines (3) hetrocyclic nitrogen compounds or (4) Schiff's bases obtained by condensing aromatic amines with aliphatic or aromatic aldehydes. The polyesters and polyesteramides are preferably those of Specifications 694,978, 694,982, 696,449 and 696,450. In examples p a polyester derived from adipic acid, ethylene glycol and propylene glycol of acid number 3.5 and hydroxyl number 58.6 is reacted with 4, 41- diphenyl diisocyanate or 2, 4- tolylene diisocyanate at 120-130 DEG C. for 10-15 minutes and the elastomers baked at 120-130 DEG C. for eight hours in a tray. The elastomer, 4, 41- diphenylene diisocyanate and an accelerator which is quinoline, triethylamine or the Schiff's base from butyraldehyde and aniline are then mixed on a rubber mill and aged at room temperature or at 149 DEG C.
