Abstract

Calcium carbide, preferably in particles of 1/4 to 1/12th inch in size, is coated with a viscous lubricating oil fraction of the type known as cylinder stock to prevent overheating when exposed to moisture. The preferred proportion of oil to carbide is 0.4 to 0.9 per cent.
