Abstract
711,384. Filling viscous liquids. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Dec. 3, 1952 [Dec. 7, 1951], No. 28711/51. Class 125 (2) In apparatus for filling containers with viscous liquids such as paint comprising a paint reservoir 1, a sealing gasket 17 for the container 18 and tubes 3, 4 for paint and displaced air having valves 5, 6 respectively, the valve 6 is opened before the valve 5 to allow paint in the displaced air tube to drain into the container to be filled, after filling the valve 6 is closed before the container is lowered to retain excess paint in the tube 4, and the effective cross-sectioned area of the tube 4 is great enough to allow air to pass up through paint contained therein. In operation, the container 18 is raised by its support to engage the gasket 17 which pushes up a rod 8 to raise a cross beam 7 which lifts the valve 6 to allow paint to drain into the container. Further raising of the container causes the upper surface of gasket 17 to seal against a sleeve 12 and when the cross-beam 7 reaches the top of a slot 19 in the operating rod of valve 5, the latter is opened. When the paint level reaches the outlet of tube 4, paint rises in this tube and then filling stops. The rod 8 is knocked from the gasket 17 and the valves 5, 6 close. The container is then lowered on its support. The valves 5, 6 may be moved downwardly to open position and the invention may be embodied in a rotating table machine. U.S.A.
