Abstract

710,834. Radio receiving circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept 16, 1952 [Sept. 19, 1951], No. 23237/52. Class 40 (5) In a receiver for two wavebands, for which separate low-frequency channels are provided, a potentiometer used as volume control in the one channel is switched so as to control the other channel also. For receiving frequency-modulation, a valve 3 acts as an I.F. amplifier being fed from circuit 1 and feeding a discriminator network 4 and valve 5, which is of the multigrid phase-detector type. Demodulated signals appearing in the anode circuit are fed over volume control 8 and switch 9 to output stages and reproducer 11. Amplitude modulated signals in another waveband are switched (by means not shown) to circuit 2 and are rectified by the diode portion of the valve 3. Demodulated signals appearing across the load resistance 14 are fed via resistances 17, 16, 15 to the grid of valve 3, which now functions as a low-frequency amplifier, the output being taken from the screen circuit and fed to output stages and reproducer 18. The devices 11, 18 may have part or all in common. The switch 9 is ganged to the waveband switch so that, on this band, the potentiometer 8 acts as a variable shunt across the resistor 16. Loss of higher audio frequencies caused by condenser 13 is compensated by means of a condenser 19.
