Abstract

Conductive rubber parts are made by mixing an artificial aqueous dispersion or a solution of rubber with an aqueous dispersion of carbon black under such conditions that coagulation of the rubber does not take place, then adding a coagulating agent which is not left in the final composition separating the coagulum, drying it and then extruding it without preliminary mechanical working and vulcanizing the extruded parts. Naturally occuring rubber latex cannot be used as the aqueous dispersion. The mixture may be coagulated with alcohol, acetic acid or acetone. In examples (1) 100 parts of smoked sheet, 30 of factice, 10 of mineral oil, 10 of zinc oxide and 3 of sulphur, were soaked in their own weight of commercial rubber solvent, 80 parts of carbon black were dispersed in 7 times its weight of the same solvent and the dispersions mixed and coagulated with industrial spirit, the resulting material being extruded. (2) An artificial aqueous dispersion was prepared from rubber, potassium stearate, casein, petroleum jelly and dispersing agents and mixed with a dispersion of acetylene black in water. The whole was coagulated with acetic acid and extruded.
