Abstract
710,626. Rectifying. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 29, 1952 [Oct. 2, 1951], No. 24331/52. Class 38(2) In a rectifying circuit in which the current traverses pairs of discharge type converters such as 1, 2 in series, the exciting electrode 7 of that valve 2 with the more positive cathode is energized by an independent source of voltage 9, and the exciting electrode 10 of the other valve 1 is connected to some point, e.g. the positive D.C. output terminal, which is positive relative to its corresponding cathode at the moment of ignition. Thus the provision of separate energizing means for electrode 10 is avoided. The invention is described as applied to a three-phase circuit with pairs of valves in series, Fig. 2 (not shown), and back to back arrangement of valves for single and three-phase circuits, Figs. 3, 5 (not shown). As an alternative to the D.C. terminal the mid or neutral point of the imput transformer secondary winding or windings may be selected.
