Abstract
710,428. X-ray apparatus. SIEMENS-REININGER-WERKE AKT.-GES. Aug. 30, 1951 [Sept. 11, 1950], No. 200545/51. Class 98(1) An X-ray apparatus having means for radioscopy and/or radiography of dorsal regions of the human body and/or organs of the body located at or near the dorsal regions without varying the position of the body throughout the whole operation of radioscopy and/or radiography, comprises mechanical support means for a patient's body, said means being shaped so as to give the longitudinal axis of an extended body an arcuately shaped form which is concave in relation to the focal spot of an X-ray tube with the patient facing the focal spot of the tube, thereby substantially cancelling out the curvature of the lumbar vertebrae, and means for arranging a fluorescent screen and/or a radiographic film in a position parallel or approximately parallel to and near the place of the dorsal region. As shown the support comprises a frame of tubular steel carrying a canvas sheet 36, and having a footrest 35 at one end. The support is releasably attached to the table 1 of a conventional X-ray apparatus by means of bars 2, 3 having spring claws gripping the edges of the table. Member 2 carries a deformable parallelogram linkage 11 to which a support 21 fixed to the frame is pivoted. A handle 19 engages nuts at opposite pivot points of linkage 11 so that the frame may be raised and lowered. Memberhas an extension 23 to which a support 22 fixed to the frame is pivoted. Support 22 carries a sector 24 with holes engaged by a slidable plunger mounted on extension 23 and operated through a Bowden cable 27 by a handle 28 mounted on the frame. By this means the frame can be tilted with respect to table 1. Pads 54 are carried on arms 49 releasably clamped to the frame, and can be adjusted to bear, through rubber sheets covering apertures 55, 56 in the sheet 36, against the patient's body to compress certain organs. In use, the table 1 is brought to a vertical position, handle 19 is turned to bring the support close to the table, and the support is rotated. The patient then steps on footrest 35 and leans on 'the support, which is then rotated so that the patient is brought to a position facing the table between the table and the fluorescent screen and cassette carrier (not shown). Table 1 is then brought to a horizontal position, and handle 19 turned to raise the support to the required height. The patient is then face down with his body bowed upwards, the curvature of the lumbar vertebrae being substantially cancelled out. In this position a fluorescent screen or film cassette can be brought close to the kidneys, and radioscopy or radiography of the kidney region can readily be carried out by means of an X-ray tube below the table.
