710,286. Magnetic tests; geophysical surveying. CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE. Sept. 26, 1951, [Oct. 6, 1950.] No. 22532/51. Class 37. Apparatus for determining the average resistivity of the subsoil at various depths comprises a galvanometer connected to electrodes buried in the ground for measuring the horizontal component of the natural and artificial currents flowing in the earth, and a magnetometer for measuring the horizontal component of the magnetic field at the earth's surface produced by the normal earth's field combined with that produced by the earth currents, and analysing the variations in the measurements into their respective Fourier Series. It is stated that the relative magnitudes of any particular frequency will indicate the average resistivity at a depth defined by that frequency. The galvanometer and magnetometer readings may be simultaneously recorded by moving mirror suspensions, on a common photographic strip moving at the rate of a few centimeters per minute.
