Class 59 An impact-pulverizer comprises percussion members 11 on a rotor 3 in a casing 1 and resilient recoil plates 17 against which material is thrown by the members 11 and crushed, the plates 17 being suspended for movement away from the rotor on a rod 19 which lies outside the plane containing the impact surface of the recoil plate disposed nearest to the rotor. The material to be crushed is fed beneath a chain curtain 14 and over a sieve 15 to the hollow rotor 3 which is rotated by an electric motor 4, 7 housed in the rotor The plates 17, 17' are supported between holders 18 mounted on the rod 19 which is located selectively in. holes in plates 21 fixed to the casing 1 of the mill, the holders being adjustable by bolts 20 which slide in the casing upon recoil of the plates. The beaters 11 are of concave form, being thick at their longitudinal ends, and an access hole 12 is provided through which they may be reversed, to spread the wear, or changed, the plates 17, 17<SP>1</SP> also being replaceable. In a modification, Fig. 4, the rotor' is arranged on a vertical shaft 31 and material is fed into the mill through an opening 33 and discharged'though a tangential passage 34, Four anvil plates 36 are pivotallymounted side-by-side on a shaft 35 in the passage 34 and counterbalanced by weights 37 into engagement with rotating cams 38 which rock them to prevent material from collecting. In either construction, several counter - rotating rotors may be used, and apparatus (not shown) may be provided for driving, heating or cooling the material before, during or after the crushing operation and for grading the ground material.
