Abstract

709,916. Hand looms. GUERIN, G. Dec. 29, 1950 [Dec. 29, 1949], No. 31624/50. Class 142(2) A hand loom comprises means around which the warp thread is wound in spiral manner, shedding beams carrying warp engaging hooks, and manually operated lever mechanism for raising and lowering the beams. Sides 1 of the loom are spaced apart by members 2 and carry rollers 3. 3<SP>2</SP>, 3<SP>3</SP> and 12 around which the warp passes. The roller 12 is carried on sliding arms 7<SP>1</SP> and tensions the warp. The warp is wound on by removing a roller 5, attaching the warp to a cross-member 2 and spinning the loom on an axle inserted in a hole y. A slap 13<SP>1</SP>, hinged at 14, carries a reed 15 formed of U-shaped wires 16 soldered to a lower beam and it fitted with a removable brass cover. Beams 24<SP>1</SP>, 24<SP>2</SP> 25' and 25<SP>2</SP> carry hooks 29 guiding the warp threads, the hooks being made of cadmium-coated iron wire or non- oxidizable steel wire. A hand lever 19' turns an axle 18<SP>1</SP> having cranks to which are attached rods 27<SP>1</SP>, 28<SP>1</SP> that move the beams 24<SP>1</SP>, 25<SP>1</SP>. A similar lever at the other side of the loom, and an axle, cranks, and rods. move the beams 24<SP>2</SP>, 25<SP>2</SP>. The fabric woven may be a plain weave, damask, or candlewick.
