Abstract

708,864. Inspection openings. K.A.C., Ltd. Jan. 19, 1953 [Jan. 18, 1952], No. 1565/52. Class 107 A cover panel for an inspection opening, especially in aircraft, seats on the periphery of the opening, the seating being so shaped that pressure applied asymmetrically to the cover panel will cause the panel to rock in the opening such that the part of the panel remote from the pressure will project to render the whole panel removable. Retaining means such as magnets or ball catches are provided to prevent accidental opening of the panel. The cover panel is preferably a section of a solid of revolution. Fig. 1 shows a cover forming part of a sphere. The cover seats on its periphery on a correspondingly shaped seating 4 and is retained by magnets 12 acting on armatures 13. Thumb holes 14 are provided to facilitate gripping the cover when removing. A rectangular panel is shown in Fig. 3. This panel is part of a cylinder and is retained by ball catches 23, 24, 25, 26. Pins 31 and 32 also are provided to coact with bayonet slots 33 and 34.
