Class 87 (2) [Also in Group VI] An artificial tooth having a translucent veneer and a relatively opaque body portion is made by coating a mould with a veneer-forming composition comprising finely-granulated translucent acrylic resin moistened with a liquid containing an acrylic resin solvent; introducing the bodyforming material, which is finely-granulated dry acrylic resin, into the coated mould; hot-pressing the mould contents; and finishing the tooth by cutting or grinding. Fig. 6 shows a filled mould prior to hot-pressing, the mould haying two incisor tooth cavities, one at right-angles to the other. A coating 4 of the veneer-forming composition is spread on the bottom of the lower half 2 of the mould; the moistening liquid may be a volatile non-solvent, e.g. alcohol, containing a solvent, e.g. chloroform. The thickness of the coating may vary from place to place, and recesses or holes may be formed therein to imitate fillings. The coating hardens whereupon spots 7 of coloured dry acrylate granules are applied thereto, then the body material is applied in two lots 8, 9. This body material is less translucent than the coating material. The lot 8 is yellow or bone-like .in colour, and the lot 9 is translucent; the boundary 10 between the two lots is mixed as by means of a spatula. The cavity 1<1> in the upper mould half 1 is filled with granulated dry yellow or bone-colour acrylate 11, which may be heated to cement the granules together, and the whole is hot-pressed. The resulting tooth is shown in Fig. 7, and this is cut or ground to the shape shown in Fig. 8. More than one coating 4 may be applied to the mould.
