Class 78 (1) Coils 22 of rod or wire or like annular bodies are discharged from loops 12 on an overhead conveyer to arms 34 of a storage device by a platform 24 mounted for up-and-down movement on a wheeled carriage 11 reciprocated on a bed plate 10. The carriage is reciprocated by a connecting rod 14 actuated by a crank 15 secured to a shaft 16 driven through gearing 18 by a motor 19. The platform 24 is slidably mounted on a bracket 20, fixed to the carriage 11 and has upward movement imparted to it by a lever 25 mounted on a shaft 26 and commected at one and by links 27 to the platform and at the other end connected to links 28 engaged by a pin 29 secured to the connecting rod 14. As a loaded hook 12 approaches the unloading point, contact is made with a switch or like device to set the apparatus in motion. As the carriage is moved forward, rollers 32 supporting the ends of the shaft 26 move up a cam path 33 secured to the bed. plate whereby the platform is raised quickly and the coil lifted off its hook and carried forwardly. After this point in the stroke of the carriage, the platform falls quickly due to the fall in the cam path 33 and the coil is deposited on the end of an arm 34. It is then pushed along the arm during the remainder of the forward stroke, the platform resting on stops at a level below the bottom of the coil. As each coil is deposited on the arm the preceding coil or coils are pushed further on to the arm. At the completion of the return stroke of the carriage, the machine is stopped by the action of a limit switch (not shown). The arms 34 are pivotally mounted on the spider 35 of a pillar 36 rotatable by a motor 37 so that as one arm is completely loaded another arm can be brought into loading position. The conveyer may be unloaded whilst it is moving or after it has been stopped.
