706,480. Stencilling-apparatus. BROWN, W. C. Nov. 6, 1951 (Nov. 6, 1950], No. 27022/50. Clas 100 (2) A silk screen printing machine comprises a rotary frame to which the stencil screen 14 can be secured, a reciprocating flat bed 9 carrying the sheet to be printed, a toothed sector 7 and rack 8 whereby the frame is swung in synchronism with the bed, printing being effected by movement in each direction by a squeegee 13 mounted centrally below the axis of the frame, ink reservoirs 15 positioned one on each side of the squeegee and means operated by the swinging movement of the frame to allow ink to fall on to the screen during each reciprocating movement of the bed. The frame comprises a pair of semi-circular members 1 rotatably mounted on a shaft 6 and maintained in the spaced relationship by cross-pieces 2. The screen is stretched over the members 1 by a series of screws 37 accommodated in slots 36 and carrying travelling nuts provided with hooks for engagement with eyelets in the edge of the screen. The ends of the shaft 6 are vertically adjustable by screws 12 to bring the screen into correct printing contact with the screen. Gates 16 of the reservoir are controlled by jointed rods 17 linked for opposite movement by a cross-arm 18 and controlled by cams 21, 25 mounted on shafts 22, 26 carrying pinions 23, 27 meshing with a gear 24 which is fixed to the frame of the screen so that as the screen turns the gates 16, will be opened to ink the screen. Excess ink falling off the part of the screen which is uppermost is caught on a tray 32 and returned by ducts 33 to the reservoirs. The bed is movable on rollers 11 and has sheet grippers comprising spring loaded plungers 40. At the end of each stroke the grippers are opened by engagement between the ends of the plungers 40 and cam members 41 under the bed ; the printed sheet is removed and a fresh sheet inserted. The reservoirs are readily replaced by others filled with ink of a different colour.
