Abstract
706,475. Shuttering for casting concrete. McALPINE & SON, Ltd., Sir A. April 6, 1951 [April 6, 1950], No. 8692/50. Class 20 (2) A shutter panel 25, Fig. 8, for casting concrete is pivoted at its upper end about pivots 62' on soldiers 20 when the concrete has set and swung up to the next level for casting a subsequent course, the pivots 62' being mounted so that, when at the top they are offset away from the concrete to allow the panel to pivot without fouling the cast concrete. Each soldier is a polygon formed of five sections hinged together as shown in Figs. 2A-2C, which is progressed like a caterpillar track up the wall one section at a time, after each course is cast. After each such movement the panel is again re-pivoted on the soldiers for swinging to the next higher level and is clamped to the soldiers by clamps 66, Fig. 5 (not shown). A bolt is placed through the soldier into the concrete being cast, as at 41, Fig. 2B, and is tightened to hold the soldier for casting the next higher course. Braces 39, 40 help to hold each soldier in position. Scaffold planks may be laid on, for instance, sections 30, Fig. 2C. The sections of each soldier are composed of opposed channels 45, 46, Fig. 8, connected by the hinges 49 and by abutment plates 50 which are adapted to hold two adjacent sections in alignment. Crossbars 51, screw eyes and apertured plates are provided for the braces 39, 40. A tie bar in channels 56 at the top of each section connects adjacent soldiers and maintains their spacing. Each shutter panel has a frame of channel section members covered with plywood and may be of convex or concave section for curved corners. The soldiers and panels are raised into each new position by manipulating in succession a pair of levers 71, 72, Fig. 8, pivoted on a sole plate 69 and connected by a chain 73. A corner angle may be formed by two soldiers suitably placed adjoining one another or a single soldier may be provided with abutment plates 50 and clamps 66, Fig. 10 (not shown) of angular form to suit the comer, and plates carrying apertures at a suitable angle to receive the pivot pins 62'. Specification 706,550 is referred to.
