705,796. Photomechanical relief printing plates. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP EXPLOITATIE MAATSCHAPPIJ QUOD BONUM. April 23, 1952 [Feb. 4, 1952], No. 10233/52. Drawings to Specification. Class 98(2) [Also in Group XVI] After the usual sensitizing, exposing, developing and etching steps applied to a metal plate, but before removing insolubilized resist portions, a metal is precipitated from a galvanic bath on to the etched areas, the plate is re-etched and then the resist is removed. The metal so precipitated is found to deposit in greater thickness on smaller etched areas than on larger areas and hence the second etching penetrates deeper into larger etching cavities than smaller and thus produces the relief plate without necessity of partial covering and etching treatments. Electrolytical etching may be used. The base plate may be copper and the precipitated metal also copper, or the base plate may be zinc coated with nickel and the deposited metal zinc. Preferably the etching agent for the precipitated metal penetrates into the base layer.
