Abstract
705,718. Refrigerating. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Oct. 5, 1951 [Oct. 9, 1950], No. 23222/51. Class 29 [Also in Group XXVII] A combined hot gas engine and refrigerator working on the reversed hot gas engine cycle comprises a hot space 84 communicating through a heater 85, regenerator 86 and cooler 87 with a cold space 91, and a freezing space 96 communicating through a freezer 95, regenerator 94 and cooler 93 with the cold space 91, the total volume of the working space being varied by a piston 92 and displacers 81, 83 with constant phase differences calculated in accordance with a formula set out in the Specification and claims. The gas in the cold space 91 is compressed, flows through the regenerator 94 to the freezing space 96 and expands therein due to the movement of the displacer 83, thus extracting heat from the chamber 100 to be cooled. The gas is then driven back by the displacer to the cold space 91. A burner 98 heats the space 84 and the hot gas passes through the regenerator 86 to the working piston 92 to supply the necessary energy. The crank case is closed with no lead-through devices for the shaft 97. The piston 92 and displacer 83 can move in phase and can be replaced by a differential piston, or two differential pistons may be: used. The energy supplied by the hot gas cycle may be sufficient to drive a fuel pump for the burner 98 and an air compressor. Fig. 8 :shows a modification comprising a freezing space 133 cooling a refrigerating chamber 146 and communicating through a freezer 143, regenerator 142 and cooler 141 with a cold space 140, 139. The: hot space 135 communicates by a heater 136 heated by a burner 145, regenerator 137 and cooler 138 with the cold space 140, 139.
